Description

Title of this monster is misspelled on purpose.

Spinosaurus, a movie monster made famous from Jurassic Park 3.
Is just that, a movie monster.
Most depictions of Spinosaurus, especially in art, are completely wrong.

See [link] for an example of what a spinosaurus really looks like.

Inaccuracies shown in this picture include.

Pronated(palm facing down) hands/ broken wrists
Hyper flexible dragon tail
flat jaws and face
No crest
dog feet
hyper-long arms that can reach the face(or even beyond)
A fish fin,or dimetrodon-like sail.
More- not shown.

All of these are completely wrong, but are shown anyways, and are still titled Spinosaurus. Let's go through some of the ones that make no sense at all.

The real spinosaurus ate fish, yes, but this does not mean it is a wimp. The fish it ate were very dangerous. Proof has surfaced that it devoured a giant sawfish known as Onchopristis , which could likely grow to the huge size of 15+ feet, with a saw that was probably the size of an adult human. It's diet probably also included crocodilians, sharks, and land animals that are much smaller than itself(like most predators today do), as spinosaurus has been found to not spend as much time in the water as other spinosaurs. If it came across other large predators, it likely used it's sheer size to push them around, and away from a carcass.

Super long ,grasping arms, with pronated hands attached. Spinosaurus arms are large(in scale with it's body), but none of them would be able to extend far enough to touch it's own snout. It's arms are also very low on the body, and likely wouldn't be super mobile.

Flat jaws and head, with waay too many teeth. - Spinosaurus had long jaws, ending with a rosette of very long conical teeth , meant for grabbing onto slippery prey. Many people draw it with a jurassic park spino face, which is much more like a Suchomimus, than a spinosaurus. Often, like with JP, they give it either the wrong crests, or no crest at all.

Dog feet and dog body- Not sure why, but people like to draw theropods with dog feet and dog bodies. Those who have not studied the animals they draw, often forget the belly ribs found in dinosaurs, that give their bodies a shape.

Dragon tail- artists tend to not know what a dinosaur tail is like, and make it super bendy and whip/cat/dragon-like.

Fish fin sail/ dimetrodon sail- Somewhere along the line, someone was told that Spinosaurus had a sail, and thought about Dimetrodon, which also had a sail, and decided to make spinosaurus have one like dimetrodon... A spinosaurus' sail is made up of long back vertebrae, and may have actually been a hump, even, like on a bison or on certain chameleons. The theory of it having a hump, instead, is still up to individual interpretations, but is still plausible.. what isn't is that the spines are small and had thin skin flaps connecting them.

The integument(body covering and stuff) of spinosaurs seems to be unknown. They may have been covered by scales , mere skin,or feathers.
